Brad Pitt’s warring exes have had a bitter war of words since 2005 but avoided drama at Sunday’s Golden Globes
All eyes were on Jennifer Aniston at Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards as she was expected to come face-to-face with her love rival Angelina Jolie for the first time since her divorce from Brad Pitt.
Jenn, who was married to Pitt for five years before he left her for the Tomb Raider star, both presented awards at the ceremony in LA.
They hadn’t been seen at the same event since the Critics Choice Awards in 2015.
Before then, the actresses had only been in the same room once – at the Oscars in 2009.
Both women have been big supporters of #MeToo and Time’s Up movements, with Jennifer recently donating $500,000 to the Time’s Up GoFundMe campaign.
While Angelina previously spoke out about her experience with disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein .
But while viewers were disappointed that there were no fireworks between the two women – they have thrown shade at each other in the past…
‘That’s karma for you’
The Friends star had a bittersweet reaction to finding out her ex was getting a divorce and according to reports in the US at the time, Aniston felt “sort of satisfied about Brad and Angelina’s split”.
When hearing the news, she reportedly said: “Yeah, that’s karma for you!”
A source told usmagazine.com: “She always got the sense that something would happen with them eventually. She didn’t feel that Angelina was truly the one who Brad was meant to stay with.”
The Groom Raider
Around the time of Angelina’s divorce from Brad, it was revealed that Jenn mockingly referred to her love rival as the ‘Groom Raider’.
A source told the Mirror: “Throughout all the pain and hurt Jen endured when she split from Brad she always felt Angie wasn’t for him.
“She always thought she was too complex for him as she sees Brad as quite a simple guy.
“Away from the screen and the glamorous life he leads, he likes nothing better than to be with his friends, having a beer and smoking a little pot. He’s just a regular guy with a high profile job.
“Jen knew he was very easily pleased and content with a quiet life away from the cameras. That was the life they led.
“After everything, Jen went through her close pals thought Angie was a master manipulator.
“Despite what Angie may have said they all think she stole Jen’s husband from her. They all still call her Groom Raider.
“Everyone in Jen’s circle presumed Angie would grow tired of Brad and it would be her leaving him for another guy.
“Let’s just say Brad is not the most mentally stimulating of guys.”
Sources close to Aniston, who is now married to Justin Theroux, said she wasn’t gloating about the demise of the Brad’s marriage even though Jolie allegedly stole him away from her.
“Jen still cares about Brad and wishes him well,” the source added. “She has moved on and has found happiness with Justin.”
What Angelina did was ‘really uncool’
Aniston kept a dignified silence for years but in 2008 she admitted that what Ange did was “uncool” and it was difficult to read about in the press afterwards.
“There was stuff printed there that was definitely from a time when I was unaware that it was happening,” Aniston said.
“I felt those details were a little inappropriate to discuss.
“That stuff about how she couldn’t wait to get to work every day? That was really uncool.”
Jenn’s ‘shock’ at Brad moving on so fast
A month after Jenn filed for divorce in March 2005, photographs broke of Brad and Angelina on the beach with Maddox at a romantic resort in Africa.
“The world was shocked, and I was shocked,” Jenn told Vanity Fair at the time.
And she was “pissed off” by reports Brad left her so he could have a family.
“A man divorcing would never be accused of choosing career over children,” she said.
“That really pissed me off. I’ve never in my life said I didn’t want to have children. I did and I do and I will! The women that inspire me are the ones who have careers and children; why would I want to limit myself? I’ve always wanted to have children, and I would never give up that experience for a career. I want to have it all.”
Ange denied intentionally ruining Jenn’s marriage
Before his relationship with Jolie, along with Aniston the World War Z actor, 54, was one half of Hollywood’s hottest couple in the late nineties and early noughties.
The inseparable pair married in 2000 only then to divorce five years later after Pitt met Jolie, 41, on the set of their movie Mr & Mrs Smith.
She once told Vogue magazine she never wanted to ruin Pitt’s marriage to her fellow actress.
She said: “I didn’t know much about exactly where Brad was in his personal life [when they met on the set of “Smith”].
She claimed she was committed to life as a single mum when she was cast alongside Pitt in the espionage action flick.
“Brad was a huge surprise to me,” she said.
“I think we were the last two people who were looking for a relationship. I certainly wasn’t. I was quite content to be a single mom.”
The star admitted she was thrilled working with Pitt every day while shooting “Smith” in 2003 and 2004.
“Because of the film, we ended up being brought together to do all these crazy things, and I think we found this strange friendship and partnership that kind of just suddenly happened. I think a few months in I realised, ‘God, I can’t wait to get to work,’ “ she added.
“Whether it was shooting a scene or arguing about a scene or gun practice or dance class or doing stunts — anything we had to do with each other, we just found a lot of joy in it together and a lot of real teamwork. We just became kind of a pair.”
