MELANIA TRUMP, who recently made headlines after suspicions the First Lady was using a body double circulated, has had her White House expenditure revealed. Is Donald Trump’s wife a thrifty First Lady when compared to her predecessor Michelle Obama?
Melania Trump has slashed White House spending since moving into the White House after she became First Lady in November 2016, reports have claimed.
The former model, age 47, has cut costs drastically.
The Slovenian-born First Lady, who is now a US citizen, cut the spending put in place by former First Lady and wife of Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, 53, by a third.
Despite the fact that Melania is used to the life of luxury, having been married to billionaire property tycoon Donald Trump since 2005, she is thrifty when it comes to public spending.
Melania Trump employs four members of staff at the White House, who have a combined salary of £368,723.
Michelle Obama employed 16 people in her staff, who were paid up to £939,424 per year in tax payer’s money.
These figures were released by the New York Post after they investigated the First Lady’s expenditure.
Twitter users chimed in when they heard the news about the First Ladies’ staffing choices.
One said: “Melania is running a lean operation as she is seeking to trim the fat off the payroll of her predecessor, Michelle.”
Sarah Palin, Former Governor of Alaska and GOP Vice Presidential Nominee, said: “Time to celebrate for one of the unsung victories that we get out of his new administration….”
A spokeswoman for Mrs Trump said: “As with all things that she does, she is being very deliberate in her hiring, focusing on quality over quantity.
“It is important to her that the team is a good fit for what she wants to accomplish as First Lady, and that everyone works well together.
“She also wants to be mindful and responsible when it comes to taxpayer money.”
Melania might be thrifty when it comes to spending public money, but the costs of painting her high-end wardrobe are another matter entirely.
The mother-of-one to 11-year-old Barron particularly likes expensive handbags and owns ones costing tens of thousands of pounds.
Melania also has a penchant for snakeskin shoes from designers such as Manolo Blahnik and Christian Louboutin.
The First Lady wore a Dolce & Gabbana jacket, worth £41,200, with large appliqué flowers on May 27.
